Italian Picnic & Parade

This past weekend was the Annual Italian Picnic and Parade in Sutter Creek where my family lived until I was in third grade and where my Grandma and Uncles still live. There's a fair on Saturday night with a band and dancing and then Sunday morning is the big parade. Jack's parents joined us for the weekend, so I took them on a tour that only a local could! Here are Jack and Brooke hanging out in front of the Mountain Men Lodge. Jack totally fits in!

This is a picture at my old elementary school - home of the mini-wolverines! This is the OLD school house - and no - I did not attend school in this one room school house. I am not that country or THAT old.
Brooke got into the Italian festivities by sporting her Nonno's t-shirt...all the other kids know that they have to back off when they see this little sicilian coming. Brooke is very connected and only uses cash.
Ah yes...the morning of the parade. Here's our family picture standing above the obvious ....the Sutter Creek!
Here's what's left of the Italian Benevolent Society. Big Jack is probably saying something super cool in Italian to all of them - but what I want to know is...what happened to the rest of you? You need to start recruiting some young Degos to join your club! When I was a kid...it seemed like there were hundreds of you...and now you all fit onto one horse cart! Depressing!
Here's a picture of Brooke and I watching the Argonaut high school cheerleaders. This is what I am telling her: You do not need to become a cheerleader. They are all bimbos who don't ever get to enjoy ice-cream and they are deeply unhappy on the inside. But...if you DO decide to become a cheerleader....you are going to be so popular - Yipee!!! (I obviously told myself the first scenario through-out my teens).
Big Jack and Grandma Sue hanging out with Brooke in Small-Town America! I have to say that the parade was not nearly what it was when I was little and had to perform with my ballet class in it. There used to be 2 marching bands who put on big shows and the little dance groups didn't just march through and kind of shake their tutu's. I had to do full on choreography for the people. Their were pirouettes and twirls and serious 1st position, 2nd position and 3rd positions going on. And on top of that...there were lots of HORSES..which meant that when you were dancing in ballet shoes...you also had to watch out for their mess! The ballerinas I saw had it WAY easier than we did in my day!
Cute!! The parade ends and Grandparents get one last hug before we hit the road. Brooke looks really long in this picture.
When we finally got home that night...we put on our sweats and played in the yard.
Brooke is holding my car keys and I am negotiating with her to get them back. This is starting way to early. I'm trying to trick her into walking to me. She's too smart.

You're hysterical. Way to tell-it-like-it-is so Brook will be prepared for anything high school can throw at her.

I spent many years at the Sutter Creek Italian picnic too!! Salute! It's nice of them to let the Sicilians participate in the Italian picnic.
